The Heat's On opened to poor reviews and weak performance at the box office. Perhaps the most critical challenge facing West in her career was censorship of her dialogue. This was the only film for which West was virtually not allowed to write her own dialogue and, as a result, the film suffered. The studio had orders to raise the neck lines and clean up the double entendres.
